Cost and sizing
What a plant costs, how big it should be, and what it saves.
How much does rooftop solar cost in Rajasthan?
It depends on the size and the pack. We quote fixed prices after a survey, so the number does not move after the drilling starts. The calculator gives an indicative figure from your bill in a minute; the free audit turns it into an exact quote on WhatsApp. For a subsidised 3 kW home in Rajasthan the payback is typically about three to four years.
What size system do I need?
Roughly 1 kW for every ₹800 to ₹1,000 of monthly bill. A ₹3,000 bill usually means a 3 kW pack; a ₹6,000 summer bill points to 5 kW. The audit reads your summer and winter bills separately and sizes to your sanctioned load.
How many units does 1 kW generate in Rajasthan?
About 1,475 units a year on a well-sited, unshaded roof, or roughly 4 a day averaged across the year. More in March to May, less in the monsoon and the winter fog.
How much roof does 1 kW need?
About 100 square feet of unshaded roof per kW on a flat RCC roof, a little less on a north-lit shed. A 3 kW home pack needs roughly 300 square feet plus a wall near the meter for the inverter.
How much can a home actually save?
Up to 90% of the bill, depending on roof size and how much of your use is in daylight or exported under net metering. Fixed charges and duties stay. The audit gives you a figure from your own bills, not an average.
My bill is under ₹1,500. Is solar still worth it?
Often, yes. A 1 to 2 kW plant takes the full per-kW subsidy, and families under the state's free-electricity scheme add the ₹17,000 top-up, which can bring a small plant to almost nothing. If the numbers do not work for your roof, the audit says so plainly.

PM Surya Ghar and the Rajasthan top-up

How much subsidy will I get in Rajasthan?
₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and ₹18,000 for the third, so ₹78,000 at 3 kW and above. Families under Mukhyamantri Nishulk Bijli Yojana may receive up to ₹17,000 more from the state, up to ₹95,000 in all.
Who gets the ₹17,000 top-up?
Connections registered under Mukhyamantri Nishulk Bijli Yojana, the 150-free-units scheme. If your bill already shows that concession, you are in the frame. It is paid through your DISCOM after the central subsidy, to the same account.
Who applies, me or Suntask?
We do, under your name and consumer number, on the national portal and with your DISCOM. The login stays yours. The subsidy is credited by direct transfer to your own bank account, never to us.
How long until the subsidy arrives?
Typically 30 to 90 days after commissioning, once the DISCOM inspection and the portal upload are done. We track the application and tell you on WhatsApp when it lands.
Is there a subsidy for shops, offices or factories?
No. PM Surya Ghar is for homes and for the common areas of housing societies. Businesses get 5% GST as input credit and accelerated depreciation instead, and their installs are the fastest we do because there is no scheme paperwork.
Is there a deadline?
The last day to avail the subsidy is 31 March 2027. Applications take weeks to move through feasibility, installation and inspection, so the practical deadline is earlier than the date.
Can I claim the subsidy on a plant that is already installed?
No. The application has to be approved on the portal before installation, and the plant built by a vendor registered with your DISCOM using ALMM and DCR components. A plant installed first and applied for later is rejected.

Loans and EMI
₹0 down, the 7% loan, and paying from the savings.
Do I really pay nothing down?
With a sanctioned PM Surya Ghar loan, the bank pays the vendor and you start on EMI. The subsidy then prepays part of the principal. Nothing down is the common case; your bank's sanction letter confirms it for you.
What is the interest rate?
About 7% a year on the collateral-free PM Surya Ghar loan, up to ₹2 lakh for systems up to 3 kW, through Rajasthan Gramin Bank and other banks on the Jan Samarth portal. Banks quote by credit score.
Can the subsidy prepay the loan?
Yes. Most public banks charge no prepayment penalty on these loans, so when the subsidy lands it goes straight into the principal and the EMI drops.
What if I do not want a bank loan?
Pay outright and the subsidy still arrives in your account. Or take EMI through the group's financing arm on the same proposal.

Net metering and your DISCOM
The two-way meter, JVVNL, AVVNL and JdVVNL, and the bill afterwards.
What is net metering?
A bidirectional meter counts what you draw from the grid and what you export. You pay only for the net. Daytime export is banked against evening import, so the saving does not depend on being home at noon.
Which DISCOM am I under?
Your electricity bill names it. Broadly, JVVNL serves Jaipur and eastern Rajasthan, AVVNL Ajmer and the centre and south, and JdVVNL Jodhpur and the west. We work with all three.
How long does the net meter take?
Feasibility usually clears within a couple of weeks of application. After installation the DISCOM inspects and installs the bidirectional meter, typically within a few weeks depending on the sub-division. We chase each stage.
What happens to the units I export but do not use?
They carry forward as credit on the next bill. At the end of the DISCOM's settlement period any banked surplus is settled at its published rate.
Will the plant work during a power cut?
A standard grid-tied system switches off during a cut for the safety of line workers. If backup matters, we design a hybrid system with a battery that keeps the essentials running.

Systems and batteries
On-grid, off-grid, hybrid, and when a battery earns its place.
On-grid, off-grid or hybrid: which fits me?
On-grid if you have a reliable connection and want the lowest cost per unit and the subsidy. Hybrid if cuts are long and you want backup for the essentials. Off-grid only where there is no line. The five-question check on the Systems page gives you the answer with the reason.
Do I need a battery?
Not for saving money. Net metering does the banking for you at no cost. A battery is for backup during cuts, and it adds to the price and the upkeep. Most Rajasthan homes and shops are best served on-grid.
Can I add a battery later?
Yes. An on-grid plant can be given a battery later with a hybrid inverter or an add-on unit. We design with that in mind, so the upgrade is a change of inverter, not a rebuild.
Why do you steer most people to on-grid?
Because for a grid-connected home or shop in Rajasthan it is the cheapest per unit, it takes the subsidy, and it needs the least looking after. Batteries earn their place where cuts are long or the line is unreliable, and we say so when that is you.
Is lithium safe in Rajasthan heat?
With a battery management system, a shaded, ventilated location and the right chemistry, yes. We do not mount batteries on a hot roof or in a closed cupboard, and RMS watches the cell temperatures.

Panels, quality and installation
What goes on the roof, how fast, and what you see before you pay.
Which panels do you use?
ALMM-listed modules, with domestic cells (DCR) wherever the subsidy applies. Every component in your proposal is named by make and model so you can check it against the government list yourself.
How long does installation take?
Most home systems up to 10 kW go up in a single day once you have approved the 3D design. Net metering and subsidy paperwork run alongside, handled by us.
Will I see the design before I pay?
Yes. On homes and shops an in-house engineer builds a 3D design of your roof at the survey, with panels, inverter and cable run in place, within 30 minutes. The fixed quote is built from the design you approve.
Can a tin or metal shed take panels?
Usually, with a purlin-clamped structure. We run the structure calculation before quoting and reinforce where needed.
What warranty do I get?
Manufacturer warranties are stated per component in your proposal, by make and model. We do not add cover of our own beyond those warranties. If a part fails, we raise the claim with the maker and fit the replacement, and our service plan covers cleaning, inspection and the site work on a maintained plant.
Do you work in my district?
All of Rajasthan, with in-house technicians by district. Enter your PIN code in the audit form and it tells you on the spot.

RMS, service and warranties
Who looks after the plant, what you can see, and who handles a claim.
Who maintains the system after installation?
We do. Every plant reports to RMS, our in-house monitoring platform, and is serviced by our in-house technicians. Five years of service are included with every plant we build; renew yearly from year six, for up to 10 years.
What is RMS?
Our monitoring platform. It records every unit every day, grades each plant's generation as Excellent, Good or Needs attention, and raises a ticket to our team on a Needs attention day. You see the same record on your phone.
Who handles a warranty claim?
We do. Panels, inverter and battery carry the manufacturer's warranty, stated by make and model in your proposal. If a part fails, we raise the claim with the maker, follow it through, and fit the replacement.
How often are the panels cleaned?
To the dust season, not the calendar: more often in the March to June dust, after the first rains, and monthly through the winter. Rajasthan dust can cost up to 15% of generation, and RMS flags a dirty array before you would notice it on the bill.
What happens if generation drops?
RMS grades the plant Needs attention and raises a ticket. A technician checks the array, the inverter and the wiring; dust and shading are fixed on site, and a failed part goes through its manufacturer's warranty, which we handle. The generation figure in your proposal is an estimate; actual units depend on weather, shade and cleaning.
You did not build my plant. Can you still service it?
Yes. After a free audit of the plant we put it on RMS and on a service plan.

Shops, factories, institutions and societies
No subsidy, faster payback, and the multi-site work behind the fleet.
What does a business get instead of the subsidy?
5% GST on the installed plant, claimable as input credit, and accelerated depreciation of 40% with a further 20% in the first year for manufacturing units. Rooftop units at about ₹3 replace grid units at ₹6.50 to ₹8.50.
How fast does a factory plant pay back?
Typically three to five years, because it displaces expensive daytime units exactly when it generates. After that the power is close to free for the rest of the plant's life.
Can a housing society get solar for its common areas?
Yes. One plant offsets lifts, pumps and lights under group net metering, enabled in Rajasthan in 2025, and PM Surya Ghar pays societies ₹18,000 per kW for common facilities, up to 500 kW at 3 kW per house.
Do you do multi-site rollouts for banks and institutions?
That is where Suntask began: hundreds of small plants across Rajasthan for institutions where power failure was never acceptable, now 370+ sites on one RMS fleet view, with a quarterly report for the board.
What is virtual net metering?
A share of a plant elsewhere is credited to a connection's own bill, so a branch or a flat without roof space still benefits. Rajasthan has enabled it; DISCOM procedures are still settling, and we quote the current position for your DISCOM rather than a promise.
